I absolutely love how your words accompany your drawings so well that it made every piece more connectable. In this drawing I think the most beautiful part is the sky. The way the sun peeked out between the two people and the way the clouds extend out to an unseen horizon.

:iconprojectcomment: here with the mad comment rush!

First off, this is beautiful :la: I love all the nice soft colors. You have the proportions down rather well too ^_^  This lovely scene reminds of a part in a show called "Whispers of the Heart"
The top right large cloud is a bit strange to me. I think it has a bit too much ripples in it but it looks rather heavenly though. :) The fence the runs vertically to the right is a little bit off as well. The right foreground is looking a little bit empty. I was thinking it might be a bit better it the picture was pulled down a little to remedy that and add some more of that nice sky :)
Anyway, loving the sunset sort of scene as also the faint image of buildings.
Very good picture! Keep up the good work :)

Hi! I saw your illustration on ProjectComment . Here is my critique!

Good sunset that you did! I like the fact that you darkened a lot the characters and the planes facing away from the sun. The bloom on the characters is also perfect! Here what I have to say though:
The perspective is not 100% right. It feels like you have 3 point perspective but the top point is inconsistent. If you look at your characters, and the left part of the fence, everything is perfectly vertical. But on the right part of the fence, the bars are tiled left. Normally, the left bars should have been tilted towards the top perspective point.

The empty part of the sky look a bit unnatural since the cloud lines are mostly straight. Of course, it is possible for clouds to be that way and you may even have seen this on a photo, but how many times do we seen straight clouds like this? It is quite rare.

For the colors of the clouds, I would have saturated a little bit the shadows and made them more blue. It feels washed out like it is and I am sure that's not what you were aiming for.

I would definitely add a foreground element. The best thing to do would be to put an diagonal object to the left that start over the fence and goes down into the ground. You don't need to fill the whole left part, you can leave a empty space between the extreme left and the object. Anything would do. The goal is to separate the depth planes and also keep the eye into the composition by closing the left part. I feel that it is what your illustration is lacking the most. You don't need to put anything to the right since the red character on the ground is already preventing our look to go outside the composition.

I hope that you found my comment useful, great job!

Thank you for your comment :-) The perspective is based on a photograph, so it's strange you think it's off. The clouds are based on the actual photo as well. I'll think about the foreground element though. Thank you very much :-)

Oh right! I can tell you though that sometimes even photo can be off or more often, inefficient. That's why you can adjust thing if you want. But still, that's a valid point you said!

That is one beautiful sunset!
The light coming exactly straight into the viewer's eye gives this natural, organic vibe to the piece, it makes me feel I'm in there, arriving at that precise moment and I just realized there's some people in the place I was heading to, wonderful!

The perspective is also great, so I'd just suggest to correct the handrail on the right end, because its bars are inclined to the left and it crashes the idea, I'd suggest to straight them up.
If I may, since the main focus is clearly the clouds, I'd like to suggest making them a little less blurred. The blur on all and each cloud breaks up with the fluffiness, making them look sketchy instead of vaporized, also, the closest an object is to the viewer, the more defined its edges should look. My practical suggestion would be to give them a very defined edge, specially on those closest to the couple which I think would be the biggest one on the right side of the drawing, and then, on another layer, add soft traces of vapor which can also be highlighted to make up the idea of volume in between the clouds and by that helping with the perspective.

I feel very out of place trying to suggest something to add, because this is very beautiful, but then I realized that some extra effects could help in focusing the mood. How about some shadows for the characters being cast to the viewer's way? Since the light comes precisely against them and not necessarily from above, I think the shadows could help the mood. And this goes for the walls too, its shadow shouldn't be cast so far away, but it should be seen to emphasize the sun's direction. Also, how about adding some more blue and purple to the cloud on the upper side, very little and inside the cloud, just to pop out the orange on top of it and make the light source much more obvious, and again, adding to the volume on the piece.

I've found this on the 'CommentRush' event at ProjectComment

This comment comes from ProjectComment "Give one comment of 7+ lines" gallery. Out of all the artwork in this collection, I liked your piece the best. I love sunsets, but I've never seen one from the rooftop of a tall building. I can imagine it just as you illustrated. The sky wide open for full effect of the clouds and setting sun. Waiting as the colors gently change as the sun goes down. I like your attention to detail, such as reflections and shadows. Blurring the building skyline creates depth. The two figures watching the sunset are nicely backlit against the sky. The impression could be of two friends sharing a casual conversation, or a possible a couple engaged in a conversation about their relationship problems. Overall, I really like your art style. After reading your profile, I see that you were traditionally trained in painting. That explains your unique digital style. I would say just continue to draw, experiment and grow as an artist because you have talent!

Thank you! Do you mind expanding on "unique digital style"? What about my style you find different? I'm curious.

I just meant that I find aspects of your piece "painterly", especially the sky and clouds, in contrast to the sharper lines of the foreground building.

Oh I see. Yes I've had many people point out how "painterly" my art is. Maybe because I was originally trained in oil painting.
